Doha: H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned has formed the Education Above All, an International Organisation which aims to promote and protect the right to education in conflict and war zones in conformity to Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which affirms that everyone has the right to education.
The organisation will fulfill its mandate by raising awareness via research, conferences, studies and educational programs about the threat to education during wars and conflicts, secondly document and collect evidence of any deliberate attacks or assaults on institutions of education in order to legally pursue the perpetuators, thirdly draw up and implement international regulations and laws which will protect the right of education and hold responsible those who attack it deliberately and fourthly build partnerships with local, regional and international organisations as well as non-governmental organisations in order to advocate for the protection of education in war zones.
Sheikha Mozah, who is a Special Envoy to UNESCO for Basic and Further Education is the Chairperson of the Education Above All Organisation which was legally formed on December 24, 2008. QNA
had written to several international and Humanitarian Organizations, including the UN and UNESCO, to call for the protection of education in the face of the Israeli assault on Gaza.(
