The public transport system in Qatar has proved a big success and complaints from the public have come down drastically with a notable improvement in the quality and range of services being provided by Mowasalat, a senior official of the company said yesterday.
Jassim Saif Al Sulaiti, chairman and managing director of Mowasalat, said the company had taken a series of steps to upgrade the services and ensure easy access for the public to Karwa buses and taxis.
“We started the bus service with about 1,500 passengers monthly. The number of people using the public buses has now grown to two million monthly. About one million people are using the Karwa taxis in a month. This shows that the public transport system in Qatar has become a big success,” Al Sulaiti said in a news conference.
“The success of our services is evident from the fact that the number of complaints we have been receiving from customers has fallen significantly in the recent past. Our customers will be able to enjoy better services soon as we are in the process of upgrading our various departments, particularly the call centre services,” he added.
He said Mowasalat had already signed a deal with Toyota to buy 300 new Camry cars which will be added to its expanding fleet of taxis very soon. These cars are specially designed to suit the Qatari roads and environment.
“We will soon sign agreements with other dealers to buy more cars,” he added.
The official scoffed at criticism regarding a shortage of taxis in Qatar. “People will continue to complain even if you put 5,000 taxis on the roads. Many of those who complain about our services do not take pains to check our services themselves. They just criticise based on what they hear from other people,” said
