Apple Ipad…and Google Tablet ….

I guess it’s finally here…The Interface…..that I had been anticipating  about for so long….the one thing that will make the Desktop, Laptop, handheld GPS and the smart phone obsolete (along with the Portable Video Player)….. its end of the road surely for Tom-tom and Garmin  unless they make their GPS free….or very cheap….right now they charge 1/4the the cost of a smart phone just for the Region Map!

Maybe dumb mobile phones or the plain-Jane mobile phones with camera might just survive….I guess Sony would be hurt the most….they would be pushed of all their Laptops, Music/Movie Portable systems…and Phones….for one they could never successfully chase Apple in spite of being in the industry forever!!!

Take note this Ipad/Tablet is a landmark innovation…..almost as big an invention of the Wheel. The previous experiments with Tablet format were not good, the reasons for this version being good are:

1.        It’s really compact…it’s half the size of a Netbook but still has the same screen size!!!
2.        The Touch Screen doubles up as a keyboard.
3.        It can incorporate more powerful processor than in a smart phone.
4.        Games are going to be more fun!

Can anyone imagine that...it could also spell the end of MicroSoft....because Google already has Chrome OS ready for its tablet.....so never will Microsoft OS find its way into Google products....

Apple too has its own OS...so to compete Microsoft will have to start producing Hardware...lol

5.        You can connect real Keyboard and mouse to it if you require or you can choose to leave them behind when you are travelling…making the bag and the Interface lighter.

6.        It’s very intuitive…and natural…to use your fingers to turn pages, see photos, open folders, play movies, check your stock, check the news or even the date & time…Its now amazing that there was a whole generation of people who had to depend upon mouse and initially train “how to use the mouse”….finally there will be mouse no more.

7.        The power issue is finally somewhat useable compared to the vulnerability of 2-3 hour of a normal laptop…

8.        This is a piece of hardware that is most suited to Social Networking Sites like QL, Facebook, Orkut, and Friendster….etc. This makes Social Networking sites really portable…..and not just on your desktop/laptop…you can take it everywhere you go.
9.        I wonder if this interface would lead to the next Version of Social Networking Sites….that is fully Voice-Enabled….ie one no longer finger-types…but speaks into the interface and the Interface records as “voice” and all the posts will be Voice-Posts!!!

10.        It could give the best GPS Navigation experience ever….
11.        VOIP calls, Video Call, Voice calls and even the normal Land phone could be done through this Tablet interface.
12.        This interface could even have an accessory…the mobile phone, or Bluetooth headphone…. that would be able to take and make calls through this interface.
13.        I have a feeling EBooks are going to be quite popular….
14.        Kids are going to love this interface…..and you know if they love anything ….it’s going to be a huge success….
15.        It won’t be strange to see kids as small as 3yrs old using the interface!

16.        Also the kids of tomorrow will no longer need to carry huge bags full of books to school…they can do their …school work/homework/reading & writing all on this Interface!!!
17.        The best thing is you will no longer need to buy a monitor/keyboard separately!!!

Noora its around QR 2,000 to 2,500....but expect prices to drop within a few months....well these are just released in US so they might be a gap of 6mths before its released here...but then the prices will also drop.

Only the Apple Ipad is released...and Google has not yet released ......normally I dont recommend Apple to people...but I guess this might be an exception.....but it would be prudent to wait for google.

But if apple is going to attach strings (patent) to this bird's wings its not going to soar for sure.....

Will there be an Ubuntu pad....would love it...
