Islamic TV channel to be launched

The Ministry of Awqaf (endowments) and Islamic Affairs of Qatar has finalised plans to launch a satellite television channel devoted to Islam, according to reports published in the local Arabic press.

Quoting the director of the ministry’s website islamweb, Mohamed Salah Dassoqui, the report says that the channel will present path breaking programmes besides regular features.

Highlighting the new features added to the islamweb site, Dassoqui said that counselling on various issues has been recently introduced for the benefit of the public who seek answers to many personal and social issues.

The website is in existence since 1998 and is being visited regularly by thousands of people.

The centre for Fatwa (edicts) on the website is one of the largest in the region and is offering valuable service to the public on issues pertaining to faith and practice.

The website has won two international awards: One in 2005 for presenting outstanding educational programmes. And the second one in 2007 for the best programme for children.
