E-registration of workers’ medical check-up launched
The Supreme Council of Health yesterday launched the electronic registration service for big companies and corporations making use of its facilities at the General Medical Commission (GMC).
It is believed that the new system will drastically reduce the crowd at the facility.
Workers, especially labourers, were usually seen sauntering or squatting about the GMC compound as their company representatives registered their data for the medical check-ups conducted on every newcomer to Qatar.
GMC is the body responsible for conducting medical tests to detect contagious diseases such as hepatitis, tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus.
Companies can access the electronic services through Hukoomi website at www.gov.qa and www.sch.gov.qa and conveniently register their workers’ data for the medical check-up.
Under the new system, companies already listed on Hukoomi will have easy access to the portal. They can make electronic payment and a receipt showing next appointment will be issued immediately.
The companies will also be prompted by a mobile text message once their results are ready.
After the e-registration inauaguration ceremomy held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Public Health Abdullah bin Khalid al-Qahtani, four companies were already availing the opportunity provided by the system by registering online.
“We are creating this new service for companies having 10 employees and above in order to ease our facility and make services being rendered faster,” HE the Assistant Public Health Minister Dr Ahmed Kamal Naji told mediapersons after he launched the system.
He added that the online registration will also reduce waiting time considerably.
“If for instance, a company representative used to spend one hour before to register his employees, I don’t think it will take him more than 20 minutes now as he must have uploaded the bulk of the data during the online registration process,” Dr Naji maintained.
The GMC acting director Dr Ahmed Ismail explained that apart from reducing over-crowding, the new facility will also increase overall productivity of the commission.
“Before, we were handling up to 2,500 applications daily, but now with the online registration, we will be able to attend to around 3,500 and hopefully in the future after evaluating the new system, we would ask employers of housemaids and drivers to apply for their medical check-ups online,” he said.
He added that the commission might consider making individual applications to its service online as well in the future.
Dr Ismail said that the results would also be made available online to the Ministry of Interior for smooth running of other immigration processing.
The official disclosed that the GMC was working closely with the SCH on upgrading its facilities to accommodate more applicants.
“We have tendered a proposal to the SCH for extension of our building and we hope to achieve this within the next two years,” he said.
