ictQATAR gives access to 4,000 online courses
DOHA: Government workers in Qatar can now learn new skills that would help advance their careers through the electronic learning portal developed by Supreme Council of Information, Communication and Technology Qatar (ictQATAR) and Institute of Administration Development (IAD).
As a collaborative project of ictQATAR and IAD, the e-learning website gives government employees access to more than 4,000 on-line courses that address both professional and personal development.
Online courses offer users interactive learning experience including audio, video, demonstrations and simulations which can be completed in at least 2-4 hours. Courses are offered in 29 distinct categories including computer skills, marketing, leadership, management, self-development, stress management and business development among others.
“The business world is changing rapidly. We are seeing new trends and new technologies emerging everyday. Equipping oneself with the right knowledge and skills and updating these skills constantly is no longer an option, but a must,” said Feda Barghouti, ictQTAR’s Project Manager for e-Inclusion. “The e-learning portal enables employees to learn and develop skills anytime, anywhere.”
According to ictQATAR, the portal is designed to promote self-learning concept of which courses do not require high levels of computer knowledge since it is user-friendly.
Numerous support sections throughout the site allows learners to ask questions and get assistance when needed.
With a computer and Internet connection, learners can take courses in different major languages like Arabic, English or French primarily intended so that language will not be a barrier to learning.
Already, ictQATAR is encouraging all of its staff to take advantage of the e-learning courses and is even requiring that workers in grades 4-9 take at least two courses during the year as part of their professional development. Those who took and finished the course will be given certificates which will be posted online.
“The courses are definitely very useful for employees who are interested in developing new skill sets and increasing their knowledge,” said Mohammed Nayeemuddeen, Training Specialist of ictQATAR’s Human Resources Development.
IctQATAR staff who have taken the courses said these were very useful as they already learnt new knowledge especially new trends in the IT field.
